Dear Davidsonian, It’s the end of February, and students at Davidson are already headed south (and to other destinations around America and around the world) for spring break. Winter sports teams are fine-tuning as they prepare for their conference tournaments over the next couple of weeks, and spring sports teams are out on the playing fields hoping for temperatures to stabilize – what is it with all of this 45-one-day-65-the-next stuff?
Spring break is an important moment in the college calendar. Seniors return from break and are staring down their last two months as students. Final papers and exams loom. Dance, theatre, and other student arts groups show off the work of their semester, or perhaps their year. And of course the earth comes alive around us and under our feet, and that just changes everyone’s outlook on our surroundings. Only three weeks now until the first day of spring! I hope that wherever you are, that the end of winter passes quickly, and that in the new season you can find new ways to connect with Davidson.
