The Religion and Music Departments present Peter Rogen reading Rumi's poems with Arsalaan playing the ney flute on Thursday, November 12, 2009, 7:00-8:30 pm in Semans Lecture Hall, Visual Art Center. The Persian poetry of Jalal al-din Rumi, a 13th century Sufi mystic, is filled with ecstatic devotional love for God, delight in the diversity of God's creation, and warm appreciation for various religions. His delightful phrasing and wit and his penetrating, compassionate insights reach past barriers and touch the listener's heart. The rhythms of his poetry invite the engaging use of musical accompaniment. Renderings of his work by Coleman Barks have made Rumi the best-selling poet in America in recent years. This event is free and open to the public.
