On Friday, December 5, 2008, at 7:30 p.m., the Aurora Trio of Davidson College presents “Chamber Music 101: Trio con Brio,” an eclectic concert exploring selections of chamber music oeuvres of Josef Haydn, Felix Mendelssohn, and Heitor Villa-Lobos. Featuring violinist Ryan Cockman, cellist Jacqueline Kim, and pianist Emily Howe, the program will showcase lesser-known masterworks alongside beloved classics of the genre.

Listen and be transported from 18^th century Austria to 19^th century Germany to 20^th century Brazil; marvel at the formal classicism of Haydn’s  Piano Trio in e minor, revel in the lush romanticism of Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor, and savor the tantalizing rhythms and French-inspired harmonies of Villa-Lobos’s Piano Trio No. 2. With a taste to suit every musical palate, “Chamber Music 101: Trio con Brio” will leave even chamber music connoisseurs with a new appreciation for the repertoire.

Formed at Davidson College in 2005, the Aurora Trio is devoted to sharing the most exciting piano trio repertoire with the community of Davidson College and the larger Charlotte region. Join them in Tyler-Tallman Hall of the Sloan Music Center of Davidson College for an exercise in the power of great music! No exam to follow.
