Energy-saving measures for computers

As part of our campus sustainability efforts, we recommend shutting down your office computer, monitor and printer at the end of the workday or during any periods of extended absence. Those who use their office computers from off-campus via Virtual Private Network (VPN) should continue to keep them powered up. Screensavers continue to draw full power and do not conserve energy; however, the software monitor power settings may be adjusted to save energy.

All computers, monitors and printers deployed by ITS in offices, classrooms and labs are pre-configured to minimize energy consumption. After a set period of inactivity (usually 20 minutes), monitors, hard drives, and printers automatically go into a low-power mode.

These simple steps taken in aggregate will result in significant campus energy savings. If you have questions or have modified the power saving options on your computer and need our assistance reconfiguring the settings, please contact the Help Desk (helpdesk@davidson.edu or x2900).
