Edward Seddon Goode, son of Rusty Goode, Class of 1954, and Jane Nisbet Goode, had numerous ties to Davidson College, both personally and through the Goode and Nisbet families. Ed, who grew up in Charlotte, graduated from this institution in 1982 with a major in economics and then earned his M.B.A. from the University of Virginia. While a student at Davidson, he was a Hall Counselor, Who’s Who, and an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. In addition, Ed served his alma mater as a volunteer for the Alumni Association and the Annual Fund. He was President of Carolinas Capital Investments Corporation in Charlotte.
Ed found his greatest joy in the life he led with his wife, Elizabeth Whitener Goode (Beth), and children Mary Ellen and Edward Seddon Goode, Jr. (Eddie). When Ed died much too young of pancreatic cancer, the family understood that for many people it is financially impossible to seek medical attention at whatever facility might provide the best health care options unless one had the advantage of the resources for travel that such a decision might require. To help defray some of those costs, the Edward Seddon Goode Health Fund was established by family and friends in memory of Ed to provide air and hotel travel expenses for full-time faculty and staff members who have been employed at Davidson for a minimum of three years and who are facing major health issues that will require care away from the Davidson/Charlotte area. The fund may also be used for spouses and children under the age of 21 to accompany the faculty or staff member. Support for a single family may not extend beyond two years.
