Established by Helmut and Elizabeth Deussen for students interested in a career involving science and technology and/or intending to major in mathematics, economics, physics, foreign languages or international affairs. Students from either North or South Carolina with demonstrated financial need are eligible for this assistance.

Ann Garrou Dickey Scholarship

Hardy II, Class of 1961, the scholarship is for students with demonstrated financial need and a particular interest in and aptitude for the study of English. Students expressing an intention of majoring in English shall receive preference. The scholarship is in memory of Mr. Hardy's great uncle Clarence L. Hardy, his parents Harmon S. and Gladys Creech Hardy, and Dr. William Goodykoontz who inspired the donor to major in English as an undergraduate of Davidson College and instilled in Mr. Hardy a love of literature and later inspired him to become a teacher.

"Established by his wife, Jean Edwards Jackson, and their daughters and their husbands, Julia and Edward A. Shaner and Broocks and R. Scott Foster, Jr. The R. Bruce Jackson, Jr. Mathematics Award is given to a rising junior mathematics major who has demonstrated great promise in the area of applied mathematics liberally interpreted. The award is given by the Mathematics Department once every two years when it determines that there are qualified candidates. This award honors R. Bruce Jackson, Jr., long-time member of the Department of Mathematics and chair 1978-83.
