Endowing Basketball Scholarships

Goal: $28 million
13 Men’s Basketball Scholarships
15 Women’s Basketball Scholarships

The Davidson basketball program holds a special place in the life and history of our college, both as an example of our commitment to scholar athletes and as a cherished part of our athletic tradition. Because Davidson has no endowed basketball scholarships, both the men’s and women’s programs have been funded entirely from the annual operating budget. To support the continued prominence of this program, Davidson has decided to make the endowment of men’s and women’s basketball scholarships an institutional priority. As the endowment grows, the operating funds currently used for basketball scholarships will be redirected to the athletics program for scholarships in other sports.

VOICES ON DAVIDSON BASKETBALL:

Men’s Basketball Coach Bob McKillop
“I made it clear to my team, we’re not just happy to be here. We’re here to win.”

Women’s Basketball Coach Annette Watts
“I just can’t tell you what an honor it is to coach these women.”

Charlotte Observer
Davidson routinely ranks high in national ratings of liberal arts colleges for its rigorous academics. Last year, it drew notice for becoming the first liberal arts college to remove loans from its financial aid packages, giving more grants to students. But nothing gets notice like national TV exposure in March.

New York Post—Lenn Robbins
I’ve decided to return to college. Not any college. Just Davidson.

Real scholar-athletes representing a tiny school from a low-profile league.

They’re winning with Phi Beta Kappas.

USA Today
They do not act like a No. 10 seed. They do not play like a mid-major. The Wildcats have a toughness forged by playing through fire. This was no fluke.

Philadelphia Daily News
The Wildcats are genuinely that good.

Washington Post
Stephen Curry and his teammates left us all with a memory to savor this past weekend for years to come. Which is what the NCAA tournament really is all about.

ESPN
Now, it’s back to practice. And make no mistake—this team is still trying to get better.

Sporting News
The wins can’t be called upsets anymore.
