CounterSpy - Manual Scanning / FAQs

How do I manually scan my computer if I suspect there is a problem with malware?

Right click the CounterSpy icon in your system tray (near the clock in the lower right corner of your screen) then select Scan > Quick. You may perform a deep scan the same way by simply selecting Deep instead of Quick. Please note that a Deep scan will take much longer to perform.

Will I see a major slow down when my system boots with CounterSpy like I did with Ad-Aware?

No. CounterSpy runs a delayed start to ensure your system is not affected during boot up.

Do I have to do anything to make CounterSpy run on my system?

No. CounterSpy is a server based solution and requires no interaction by the user unless a manual scan is desired.

Will CounterSpy scan my system every day?

No. CounterSpy is set to scan on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at noon. This will allow for other applications like Sophos anti-virus to scan your system on the off days.

What happens if I am traveling or my computer is turned off on the day CounterSpy scans?

CounterSpy will check your computer if it is turned on in a 24-hour period after a scheduled system scan and then run the automatic scan. If the computer is not within 24 hours, CounterSpy will pick up on the next scheduled scan.

Can I use my computer while CounterSpy is scanning?

Yes. CounterSpy will scan in the background and will be practically unnoticeable although you may experience a slight slow down while the system is scanned.

What happens if CounterSpy finds Malware on my system?

CounterSpy is set to automatically clean items it finds after each scan.

How do I get CounterSpy installed on my non-standard office system?
