Welcome Letter from the International Student Advisor

Greetings from the International Student Office at Davidson College! We are pleased that you will be joining us next fall and look forward with great anticipation to welcoming you in person. The International Student Office is part of the Dean Rusk International Studies Program. We are located on the first floor of Duke Residence Hall. We specialize in advising international students, planning your orientation, helping you understand and maintain your visa status and processing the necessary official documents. We look forward to working with you as you adjust to life in Davidson and in the United States.

After you have been accepted, you will receive a packet from our office with very important information.  This information includes the following materials. It is extremely important that you complete any required forms and mail or fax them back to us by the required deadlines.

1.      Form I-20: This is the required document if you are applying for an F-1 student visa. US citizens, or US permanent residents do not need this document.

2.      I-901 Receipt: Shows proof that your SEVIS I-901 fee of $200 has been paid by Davidson College.

3.      Host Family Program Materials:  Information about our Host Family Program and how you can apply to participate.

4.      Travel Information Sheet: Please complete this form and mail or fax it back to us

5.      International Student Information Sheet: Please complete this form and mail or fax it back to us

In 2009, the international student orientation begins Saturday, August 15, and continues through Wednesday, August 19th.   Orientation for all new students begins on Thursday, August 20th.  As an international student, you have special permission to move into your dorm room on Saturday, August 15th. The orientation program will provide you with important information and advice about immigration, cultural adjustment, travel, housing, financial aid, and academic policies. We also take you to open bank accounts, sponsor social activities, and shopping trips.

If you have any questions, we are happy to help you and welcome communication from you at any time.   Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
