Davidson College ResNet requires that all student computers attached to the campus network be named according to a fixed standard. Standard naming procedure is to use the owner's network username as the computer name. Network usernames are typically the first two letters of the user's first name, followed by complete last name (i.e., Joe Wildcat's username is jowildcat).

Setting the computer's name

1. Open Apple Menu | System Preferences.
2. Click Sharing.
3. In the Computer Name field, enter the new name.
4. Quit System Preferences.
