We’ve all heard the adage “high risk, high reward”—but it is rare to find an increase in reward where risk has been minimized. There’s a true sense of security in such a situation. It creates a climate where prospective students, in the midst of the oft-anxious season of applying to college, can know—and rest assured—that Davidson is worthy of their trust.

How many situations have we all been in where the unknown surpasses the known, where we must make a decision in spite of our insecurity? This program transforms financial need from an impediment into an incentive. We’ve begun to see the effects of this beautiful program.

There is no doubt about the symbiotic relationship Davidson is forming with students who previously would not have even considered applying. These students will bring their experiences and their perspectives, and invest in the diversity of thought that we enjoy on campus.

We talk about diversity a lot around here, and often it seems to be an intangible concept. How do we make Davidson a welcoming and attractive place to students from all walks of life? The realization of The Davidson Trust is a powerful step toward realizing this identity. I am thankful for The Davidson Trust and believe it is the initiative that will define our institution in this era.
