Sandy came to Davidson College in June 2007 after spending seven years at The United States Military Academy as an instructor in The Department of Physical Education. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he also served as the Director of Company Athletics and the Fitness Coordinator.

In September of 2005, under the guidance of Dr. Ralph Pim, Sandy became a certified instructor for the nationally recognized Champions of Character initiative. The Champions of Character program was created by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and its mission is to create an environment in which every student-athlete, coach, official, and spectator is committed to the true spirit of competition through the core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship. Given that athletics is such a huge part of the Davidson experience, he is looking forward in helping to bring this program to Davidson College.

In his spare time, Sandy enjoys running, tennis, racquetball, and pretty much anything related to sports and fitness. Most of all he enjoys spending time with his wife Christine, children Emma and Noah, and their two dogs, Hunny and Sugar.
