Davidson College offers two health insurance plans through CIGNA HealthCare. The college pays a portion of the health insurance premium and the employee's contribution is paid with pre-tax dollars. Both CIGNA HealthCare options: - Allow choice in care by not requiring the selection of a primary care physician
- Provide open access to specialists - no referral by a primary care physician is required to seek care from a specialist
- Offer a large selection of area physicians and facilities for in-network care
The two options available through CIGNA HealthCare provide different levels of service, with a different premium structures. These choices allow employees to select the best coverage to meet the needs of their families. The preferred provider plan pays at two different levels - in-network and out-of-network benefits. If you choose to see an in-network physician, you have a small co-pay when you seek medical care. If you choose to seek the care of an out-of-network physician, CIGNA pays a smaller portion of your medical costs. You also pay co-pays for prescription medications. A high deductible plan is one for which you pay lower monthly premiums, but you also pay direct costs for medical services and prescriptions (up to a deductible amount). Once you meet your deductible, CIGNA pays an increasing amount of the costs for healthcare. If you select this option, Davidson contributes money into a Health Savings Account (HSA) on your behalf and you are eligible to contribute money (pre-tax) into the HSA as well.
