CoverageDavidson College, provides basic vision care insurance for all employees covered under a CIGNA medical insurance plan through Vision Service Plan (VSP). In addition, employees can purchase additional vision coverage to extend the types of covered services. Additional Coverage "Buy Up" OptionThere is a buy-up option for allowances on frames (every 2 years), lenses (yearly) or contact lenses (yearly). The VSP buy up plan is available to employees that elect the Davidson College CIGNA HealthCare. You must elect the same plan you elected for CIGNA (employee only, employee + spouse, etc.). Important InformationYou get the best value from your VSP benefit when you visit a VSP network doctor. If you decide not to see a VSP network doctor, you will also receive a lesser benefit and typically pay more out-of-pocket. You are required to pay the out-of-network provider in full at the time of your appointment and submit a claim within six months to VSP for partial reimbursement. If you decide to see a non-VSP provider, call VSP first at the number listed below. Eligibility- The VSP buy up plan is available to all regular full-time and part-time employees that elect the Davidson College CIGNA HealthCare. You must elect the same plan you elected for CIGNA (employee only, employee + spouse, etc.).
- All regular full-time employees, effective the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service
- All regular part-time employees (budgeted for at least 1000 hours/year), effective the first of the month following 60 days of continuous service
