Sophos Anti-virus for Home Use (Mac OS X)

To get and install Sophos Anti-Virus (SAV) for your home Macintosh, use these instructions. Note that SAV requires that your OS be at least version 10.4.0.

  1. Open your Web browser and in the Address field enter http://lambert.davidson.edu/mac_remote_update/.
  2. From the list of files that appears, click Sophos_Installer_Mac.zip to download it to your computer. If the file fails to download, Control-click or right-click on the filename, and save the file to your desired location. You may receive a warning that the downloaded file contains an application. Allow the download by clicking Continue.
  3. Depending on the configuration of your browser, your computer may automatically decompress and launch the installer. If not, find the downloaded file and double-click it to decompress it. Then double-click on Sophos_Installer_Mac.mpkg to start the installation.
  4. Follow the steps the installer provides to install the software. No changes to the default options are required. When the installation is complete, quit the installer.
  5. In your menu bar, click the blue Sophos shield icon, and select Update Now to force a connection to Davidson's remote update server. Sophos should update itself and report success.
  6. Please email the Help Desk and notify ITS that you have downloaded home-use Sophos.

Installation complete! Your Macintosh is now outfitted with Sophos Anti-Virus protection.
