Criteria Requests made for URL shortcuts are for publication purposes will be created based on the following criteria: 1) There may only be one shortcut /URL per department /program 2) The URL shortcut is limited to the department / program office or cover page One virtual directory per department/program A department is an academic department (organization with a chair) or an administrative unit (e.g. Human Resources would be considered a department) and program is an administrative unit with a specialized name ( e.g. Dean Rusk would be considered a program). The URL shortcut is used to shorten the URL, not to provide individual URL shortcuts for all department interest or sub groups.
Example: The link http://www3.davidson.edu/cms/x1079.xml can be shortened by creating a URL shortcut to HR which refers to the human resources department cover page, http://www.davidson.edu/HR.
A link to the employee benefits page would be found at http://www.davidson.edu/HR and a second URL shortcut will not be established. Procedure If your request meets the above listed criteria, please allow a minimum of two weeks lead time and send an email to the HelpDesk with the following information: - Specific reason/usage for the URL
- The XID of the page where the URL will point
- Date when the URL needs to be active
