The Community Service Office provides a range of resources to encourage students, faculty, staff, and community members to integrate service into their lives. 

Grants through the Community Service Office
During the Fall and Spring semesters, we award over $60,000 to support student-authored grant proposals for service projects.  Examples of funded projects include a research project to explore air pollution in the town of Davidson, medical mission work in the Dominican Republic, an internship with a summer art program in Washington, D.C., and Amigos del Agua, a summer swim program for Latino youth in the Davidson area.

Bonner Scholars Community Fund
In addition to grants provided by the Community Service Office, funding for service projects is available through the Bonner Scholars Community Fund.  This allocation process is student-run, but the timeline for proposal submission and review is the same as other Community Service grants.  The Community Fund recognizes service projects that benefit the local area.  For more information about this separate process, contact Kristin Booher, Director of the Bonner Scholars Program.

October 9th - Grant proposals due to Emily Moser in the Community Service Office
Week after Deadline - Granting committee meets to review proposals
Late-October - Grant recipients are notified

Writing a Proposal
A grant application cover page should be completed, along with a typed written summary of the proposed project, its impact on the community, as well as the projected budget.  For more guidelines on writing a grant proposal, refer to the links on the right side of this page.
