Each year foreign language departments offer several AT positions. ATs are expected to teach two sessions a week (T, Th) complementing the work done in the language courses. Remuneration is $15 per session, selection is competitive. In order to be considered, all students are required to attend an AT workshop where they are trained in the dynamic audio-lingual drilling techniques popularized by Professor John Rassias at Dartmouth College.
This year, the workshop will be held on the weekend of August 28-30. See the schedule here. On Friday afternoon, students will attend an orientation meeting, followed by an intensive all-day practice on Saturday. Departmental tryouts will be scheduled for either Saturday evening or Sunday. Selection criteria include dependability and professionalism, language proficiency, mastery of the method, classroom presence, and general promise as assistant teacher.
If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Henke (German), Dr. Maiz-Peña (Spanish), or Dr. Slawy-Sutton (French).
