2009 Orientation Service Walk

Each year during orientation, new students are introduced to Davidson’s  value for service through an Orientation Service Walk. This year’s walk will take place on the morning of August 22nd.  Students, faculty, staff, and community members walk approximately five kilometers through the town to learn about the Davidson community and its history.

The walk  “kicks off” our year-long Engage for Change effort, a student-led movement that focuses on a single theme for social action throughout the academic year.  This year’s theme is “Healthy People, Healthy Communities”, which will focus on elements that make-up a healthy community and work towards eliminating the gaps that exist for some groups in terms of access to health, education and human services."

The beneficiary for this year's walk is the Free Clinic of Our Towns, an organization which provides free medical care to the uninsured in Davidson's community. The Clinic is housed in the Ada Jenkins Center, a nonprofit organization whose mission is "to improve the quality of life for the residents of our communities through the integrated delivery of health, education, and human services".

Beyond walking, new students are involved by raising funds in support of our beneficiary.  Students should download the fundraising form that provides an overview of the steps for fundraising.
