This hardbound, full-color publication contains numerous illustrations and features the essay “Marking Time” by curator Brad Thomas as well as a conversation with Robert Lazzarini and Chuck Close. Robert Lazzarini came into the international spotlight in 2001 with an exhibition of skulls in the Whitney Museum of American Art’s exhibition BitStreams, which focused on the intersection of art and technology in the information age. His uncanny sculptures of distorted human skulls sent shockwaves through the art world. He followed the success of that display with payphone in the 2002 Whitney Biennial. In doing so, he solidified his place among highly acclaimed up-and-coming American artists.
