Matt Petit was a Music and Political Science double major from St. Petersburg, FL, who attended Davidson on the Donald C. Plott Music Scholarship. Matt played trombone since the fourth grade and performed with many professional and semi-professional chamber and large ensembles throughout Florida and North Carolina. Since early high school, Matt studied under Harold van Schaik, Ian Boussfield, and Brian French.
In addition to playing principal trombone in the DCSO, Jazz Ensemble, and Brass Quintet, Matt tried to take advantage of every solo opportunity he could find at Davidson. He was named one of the winners of the 2006 Concerto Competition and performed Lars-Erik Larsson’s Concertino with the DCSO that year.
Matt planned to work in diplomacy and international relations after graduating from Davidson, but also wanted to keep music as his passion throughout life. He found the Davidson College Music Department to be a great asset to both his musical and personal development and thanks them greatly.
