Josiah (also called Josh by some of his professors and friends) was an international student from Kijabe, Kenya. While at Davidson he played tenor saxophone in the Davidson College Jazz Ensemble. While he enjoys jazz and improvisation, he is also interested in the tradition of western music. He is particularly fond of the music of Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, and of course, J.S. Bach. At Davidson, Josiah became especially intrigued with music theory, and while not quite as enthralling to him, he also enjoyed the larger connections and insights that emerge in the study of western music history. He has always been interested in compositional techniques and the role of music in pop culture. He is grateful to the Davidson Music Department for allowing him to study music at the forefront of an excellent liberal arts education.

The son of a general dentist practicing in Kenya, Josiah hoped to continue in father's footsteps of leading a life of service by providing dental care to under-served areas throughout the world. Though he will always be a part of the Davidson Class of 2009, he graduated in May 2008 and attended UNC in the fall.
In his free time Josiah enjoys photography, Wii tennis, DDR, and watching Disney Channel (particularly Hannah Montana). He was part of several dance clubs at Davidson, including the Shades of Brown Step Team and the Swing and Salsa Club, and took dance classes in ballet and jazz. Josiah enjoyed tutoring 4th and 5th graders in a local after school program during the week and also had somewhat of an addiction to dying his hair unnatural colours.
