Anjan Mukherjee '09

Anjan was born in Calcutta, India, but lived in Chevy Chase, Maryland, for a long time. He has been involved in music since middle school. He first started out playing piano, then played the flute for four years in middle school and high school band. In his junior year of high school, he switched to playing percussion in the school orchestra as well as the jazz ensemble. He was also involved in a school-sponsored jazz combo which regularly played around the Washington, D.C., area. He also took IB Music in high-school, a two-year course that covered music theory as well as music history.

At Davidson,  he played percussion in the Symphony Orchestra all four years, and joined the Jazz Ensemble his sophomore year. He played for various events outside of Davidson as well (involving groups such as the Brass Quintet). He  was also involved in the independent jazz combo, Off Main. After Davidson, he hopes to go on to graduate school (possibly law or business), but will undoubtedly keep playing music throughout his life. He also has a rock band, which meets informally as well. In his spare time, he fiddles around on the guitar.

Anjan has one younger brother, Anuj, and his parents are Amitabha and Ranjana Mukherjee. He is very happy that the music major allowed him to further explore a subject he greatly enjoys.
