Mauro Botelho began his musical studies at age 5. He lived in his parents' native Brazil during his middle and high school years, where he continued his musical activities as the principal bassoonist of the São Paulo Municipal Youth Orchestra and the São Paulo State Youth Orchestra. Prof. Botelho's scholarly interests center on the music of the late baroque and classical periods, especially in the aspect of rhythm. He has presented in the United States, Brazil, and Europe.
