Students who wish to continue at Davidson the study of a language they have studied before will need and want guidance in placement at the proper level, one defined as building on prior knowledge and extending the skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. For four languages (French, German, Latin, and Spanish), we use web-based placement tests; for others (Arabic, Chinese, Greek, and Russian), appropriate placement is achieved best by having the student communicate with the person in charge of the particular language program.
