This $10,000 grant was established in memory of Kathryn Grey Bayles, mother of Bryan Bayles, '92, art history, upon her death in June of 2001.  Mrs. Bayles on several occasions welcomed into her home Davidson students from Shaw Smith's Contemporary and Larry Ligo's Modern art classes who were on spring break trips to Washington, DC area museums. She was a tremendous supporter of Davidson through The Friends of the Arts as well, and her family felt donations to the art department would be a fitting tribute to her life. 

A $500 travel grant is awarded each year to an art student planning travel to further explore the world of art.
