Consortium Policy

Policy is set by the Consortium and states that a student may take a course at a host school, without paying tuition, if (a) the course is not taught at the student’s home school, (b) the student is taking a full course load at the home school, and (c) there is room in the course.  Part (a) generally is supposed to mean that the home school doesn’t teach the course at all, not that it isn’t offered in a particular term.  The registrar would transfer such course as a 199 (or 199c, counting as core, if appropriate); it would then be up to the major department to decide whether the transferred course could count toward the major.

A student also may take courses at UNC-C (in the summer, as a rule) simply as a visiting student, not through the Consortium arrangement, which doesn’t apply to summer school.  In that case, restrictions (a) and (b) don’t apply.
