DAVIDSON COLLECTS: 1938 - PRESENT

This exhibition provides a historical context for the Permanent Art Collection at Davidson College. The exhibition will explore the formation, development, and purpose of the more than 2,800 works of art collected by former gallery directors, Doug Houchens and Herb Jackson and the current director Brad Thomas.


 

British Visions

Thursday, January 18 – Friday, March 2, 2007 Opening Reception: Thursday, February 1, 2007

This exhibition of sculptures by major British artists is presented in conjunction with the 2007 Royal Shakespeare Company’s educational and performance residency at Davidson College. In addition to showcasing the influential literary and performance traditions of Great Britain, Davidson College will honor the contributions made to the visual arts by preeminent artists such as Antony Caro, Tony Cragg, Richard Deacon, Antony Gormley, Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, William Tucker, and Rachel Whiteread.

2007 Annual Student Juried Art Exhibition

Guest Juror and lecturer, David Steel, curator of European Art at the North Carolina Museum of Art

April 20 - May 9, 2007

This annual exhibition of works by both art majors and non-art majors highlights works produced during the academic year. Artworks are selected by members of the studio faculty and awards of excellence are presented by a guest juror. Cash awards are made possible in part by Christa Faut Gallery, Cornelius, NC and purchase awards made possible by Ingersoll Rand, Davidson, NC. David Steel, curator of European Art at the North Carolina Museum of Art and curator of Monet in Normandy, will be this year's guest juror for the Annual Student Juried Art Exhibition and guest lecturer. His presentation, Monet In Normandy: Anatomy of an Exhibition will provide a "behind the scenes" look at how this critically acclaimed exhibition came to be.
