John Halsted Loughridge, JR. ’67
(Awarded-- 2007)

John Loughridge arrived in Davidson in the fall of 1963 from Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.  He quickly made his mark on the Davidson community as a member of the College Union board, chairman of freshman court, and a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.  After graduating from Davidson with a degree in economics, John attended Wake Forest Law School

John is a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, having served in Armor, Civil Affairs, and Judge Advocate General Corps branches.  Upon completion of his military service, John joined Wachovia Corporation, where he currently serves as Senior Vice President and Counsel.

Over the years, John has remained a loyal alumnus of Davidson College serving in various capacities with the Alumni office as well as the Annual Fund.  John has served as the Annual Fund class chair several times over the years, as well as Annual Fund decade chair for the 1960s.  In addition to his work with the Annual Fund, John has served on many reunion committees and is chairing this year’s 40th reunion for the Class of 1967.  John was also selected to join the Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2001 through 2003.

John has also been involved as a leader in his community, his church, and in the legal world.  John has served on the Advisory Panel of the American Bar Association, has been the Chair and a Governing Council member of the North Carolina Bar Association, and has served as a Bar Examination Candidate Ethics and Morals Interviewer for the North Carolina State Bar.  John has also served as a deacon and chair of the Missions Committee at the First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem and as president, secretary, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Reserve Officers Association in Winston-Salem.  He volunteers as a cabinet member and chairman of the professional division for the United Way of Forsyth County, as an Annual Fund volunteer for the Arts Council of Winston-Salem, and as an overnight volunteer coordinator with the Samaritan Inn and Soup Kitchen.

For his personal and professional accomplishments; for his service to his community; and, most of all, for his exceptional leadership and dedication to alma mater, the Davidson College Alumni Association proudly honors John Halsted Loughridge, Jr., Class of 1967, with the Alumni Service Award on the occasion of his 40th reunion, April 28, 2007.
