I never really considered how important focusing on myself was in order to be an effective leader for others. |

First year Chidsey Leadership Fellows explore their own personalities, values, and strengths in the context of a diverse learning community. This enables them to have a deeper sense of their particular uniqueness and appreciate the ways that diversity impacts groups.
First year Fellows participate in weekly meetings followed by dinner from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday nights. First year Fellows can expect to:
- Assess their own strengths, values, emotional intelligence, and learning style.
- Reflect on these assessments and use them for setting leadership development goals.
- Share their individual story with the cohort.
- Design and deliver a workshop for the high school leadership conference.
- Reflect on their leadership.
- Get to know the members of their cohort formally and informally.
- Explore the relationship between ethics and leadership.
- Meet one-on-one with a Chidsey staff member at least once each semester.
- Connect with upperclassmen in the Chidsey Fellows program.
