Activity Tax Council (ATC) The Activities Tax Council, as mandated by the Student Government Association, is responsible for allocation and supervising the use of student activity fees collected in the comprehensive tuition bill. The Council is comprised of a chairperson, vice-chairperson, the Coordinator of Student Activities, the Dean of Students, the SGA Treasurer and five members of the student body. The Activity Fee is intended for the direct benefit of students. Only those student organizations holding an SGA charter are eligible to receive these funds. Alpha Epsilon Delta (Pre Med Honor Society) The Davidson College Alpha Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) serves as the primary organization for Davidson students interested in the field of medicine. AED is the national premedical honor society that recognizes members for outstanding academic performance, community service, and leadership. AED sponsors a number of programs throughout the year that aid premedical students such as visits by medical school deans, MCAT and AMCAS forums, presentations by local physicians, practice interviews, a mentor program, and service projects related to the medical field. On December 2, 2006, AED sponsored the first annual Chilly Challenge 5k run/walk benefiting the Epilepsy Foundation of America. The goal of AED is to educate Davidson students in preparing for medical school and provide a support group where members can learn from each other in the process of becoming a physician. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The goal and purpose of The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is to develop leaders, promote brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities. As a body, we achieve this purpose by engaging the Davidson College community and the community at large in the form of community service and intellectual forums. Alternative Breaks During fall and spring break, groups of students take part in short-term, alternative break service projects. Trips are organized and led by trained student leaders and have included projects focused on housing, energy conservation, disaster relief, homelessness, youth issues, and environmental issues in locations like New Orleans; Johns Island, SC; Florida and Washington, DC. American Chemical Society Student Affiliates The Student Affiliates program supports undergraduate students, their faculty, and local section members in promoting professional development, mentoring, and peer-support mechanisms for those majoring in the chemical sciences. Giving students the professional edge, Student affiliation allows students to network with top professionals, attend scientific meetings, and directly access research. Affiliates also enjoy substantial discounts on ACS journals, Chemical & Engineering News, four issues of the undergraduate career magazine in Chemistry, career and employment services, and the Directory of Experience Opportunities that lists co-ops, internships, and summer jobs for undergraduate chemical science students. Amnesty International Amnesty International campaigns world-wide to promote for human rights outlined in the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” and other international standards. Androgyny Since 1998 Androgyny has been Davidson College's foremost (and only) co-ed a cappella group. Having released two CDs (Everything but the Piano in 2003 and The Acapocalypse in 2006), Androgyny is developing into one of the premier music groups on campus. Their mix of 80's jams, old time rock and roll, and the occasional country or pop hit energizes audiences, and has solidified Androgyny's place as a fan favorite. Ars Longa Ars Longa seeks to facilitate students of all academic disciplines in creating works of visual art and promoting visual arts events campus-wide. In recent years, Ars Longa has hosted renowned artists to campus, organized student photography exhibitions, held weekly figure-drawing classes, and offered off-campus ceramic workshops. Asian Culture & Awareness Association (ACAA) Is committed to promoting awareness within Davidson of the contributions of the Asian/Asian American population. ACAA strives to maintain a sense of unity among the Asian American students of Davidson College, while inviting all students, Asian and non-Asian, to explore and cultivate their interests in Asian and Asian American culture. Aviation Club The purpose and aim of the Davidson College Aviation Club shall be to increase awareness of general aviation on campus while providing an opportunity for students to learn to fly, maintain currency of otherwise become involved in the world of aviation.
