Angus M. McBryde ’59

An outstanding runner, Angus McBryde also served the athletic department in a variety of roles following his collegiate years. He is one of just two Wildcats ever to be named All-Southern Conference three times in cross country, and at the conference track championships in 1958, he placed first in the mile. Although he finished third in the mile as a senior, he improved his time from the previous year.

McBryde returned to his alma mater in 1976 as a team doctor, a role which he filled for a decade. But he did not limit his service to the college, acting as president of the Wildcat Club for the 1976 and 1977 calendar years. In October 1977, McBryde was chosen as the President-Elect for the Alumni Association for 1978, then served his one-year term as President of the Alumni Association in 1979. During those one-year tenures, he also was an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees. After his 10-year stint as a team doctor, McBryde returned to the Board as a Trustee in 1986. He also served on the following committees: Finance & Budget, Honorary Degrees, Institutional Advancement (1986); Athletic Policy (1987-89); and Academic and Educational Policy (1990-93).

Charles D. Slagle ’74

Charlie Slagle was a goalkeeper for the men's soccer team in the early 1970s, and he still holds the single-season record for saves. But it was his tenure as the team's head coach that made him deserving of this honor as he built up the program and brought the team to unexpected heights. In his 21 seasons as the Wildcats' head coach (1980-2000), Slagle posted a record of 209-202-31, easily the winningest coach in the sport at Davidson. His 1992 squad, however, achieved the impossible, reaching the national semifinals and finishing the season ranked 16th in the coaches poll and 15th by Soccer America. Slagle was also instrumental in bringing the NCAA Championship to Davidson, with the event first coming to campus in 1992, merging the two monumental accomplishments.

Seven times he was named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year, twice the regional coach of the year and once -- in that magical 1992 season -- the NCAA Coach of the Year. Davidson won three regular-season titles and two tournament crowns during 21 years at the helm. Slagle also wore many hats for the Wildcats, serving a season as a head coach for women's basketball, golf and baseball.

Brandon D. Williams ’96

The most electrifying basketball player Davidson College had during the 1990s, Brandon Williams helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of postseason berths in the NIT in 1994 and 1996, earning first-team all-conference and all-tournament honors both years. Nicknamed “Ozone” due to his phenomenal jumping ability, Williams averaged 13.4 points per game in his career and is currently 11th all-time on the Wildcat scoring list with 1,505 points. He scored in double figures 75 times in his career, topping 20 points on 18 occasions and 30 three times with a career high of 38. Williams elevated his game in his senior campaign, leading Davidson in scoring (18.2 ppg) while shooting 49.6 percent from the floor and 40.7 percent on threes.

Williams spent nearly a decade playing professionally, including stints with the Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs, the latter with which he won an NBA championship. Currently Williams works for the NBA in the Community and Player Programs.
