This one day conference will provide an opportunity for healthcare professionals, concerned citizens, and undergraduate students from the region to consider "Altruism in Medicine and Health Care." Sally Satel, MD, Resident Scholar, American Enterprise Institute, and Mrs. Virginia Postrel, who is an editor and author of The Substance of Style and The Future and Its Enemies, will give the morning keynote address "A Kidney Donor's Perspective, A Kidney Recipient's Perspective." Dr. Satel is the recipient of the kidney and Mrs. Postrel (www.dynamist.com) is the donor. The morning plenary address will be presented by Michele Goodwin, JD, LLM, Chair and Director, Health Law Institute & RABE Center, DePaul University College of Law. Her topic is "Altruism's Limits." Professor Goodwin has researched and analyzed the development of policies to regulate the use and sale of human biological substances. The afternoon plenary address will be presented by Gregory Larkin, MD, MS, MSPH, FACEP. His talk is entitled "Is In-Hospital "CPR Ever Futile?" Dr. Larkin is internationally recognized as a leader in Emergency Medicine with a particular focus on the mental health correlates and consequences of acute trauma, injury, and disaster.
