Recreational Groups & Sports

*Unless otherwise indicated, the sites below were created and are maintained by Davidson students and/or their advisors, to whom questions regarding the sites should be directed.

Aviation Club
The purpose and aim of the Davidson College Aviation Club shall be to increase awareness of general aviation on campus while providing an opportunity for students to learn to fly, maintain currency of otherwise become involved in the world of aviation. For more information contact Claire Peterson.

Badminton Club
Our purpose is to introduce badminton, a sport which is not known very well at Davidson, to the students of Davidson.  Furthermore, we hope to eventually be able to establish a Davidson badminton team which will compete with the badminton teams of other colleges.  For more information contact Kim Lau.

Baseball Club
Club Baseball provides students of all skill levels with a passion for the sport and chance to play competitive baseball against peer institutions, while simultaneously providing leadership opportunities in the operation of a student-run organization throughout the year.  For more information contact Stephen Pierce.

3-on-3 Basketball
3 on 3 Basketball uses the same rules as 5 on 5 except that the game is played on one half of a regulation size court and you have fewer players. All games will be played in Baker Sports Complex. The games are played until one team reaches 21 points - by ones. The game must be won by 2 points. Time will not be kept and the first team to reach 21 points will be the winner. Each team must have a minimum of 5 players. Played in the Fall.  For more information contact Allen Sutton.

5-on-5 Basketball
5 on 5 Basketball will use the same rules as Men's College Basketball. All games will be played in Baker Sports Complex. Each team will have 5 players on the court with a maximum of twelve per team. The game will consist of two eighteen-minute halves with a running clock. Games will be full court and will be played on the upper intramural courts. Cheerleading
Davidson Cheerleading season begins prior to New Student Orientation in August with pre-season training camp for returning team members. The team cheers for all home Football, Men's and Women's Basketball games, as well as a few selected away games.   For more information contact Laura Candler.

Club Sports Council 
A club sport is a student organization formed by individuals with a common interest in a sport activity and exists to promote and develop interest in that particular sport. Clubs may be instructional, recreational, competitive, or a combination. Students are responsible for organizing, funding, regulating, and scheduling activities for these club teams under the direction of the Assistant Director of Physical Education and Recreation. Involvement by faculty and staff advisors is essential.  For more infomation contact Allen Sutton.

Crew
The purpose of Davidson Club Crew is to introduce the sport of rowing to all interested members of the Davidson community; to offer instruction to rowers; to build team unity and cooperation; and to compete in intercollegiate regattas.  For more information contact Bekah Landfried.

Cricket Club
The Cricket Club serves as a competitive and recreational club that provides an equal opportunity for all students, faculty, staff and alumni associated with Davidson to learn and play the great game of Cricket.  For more information contact Fareed Cheema.

Croquet Club
The Croquet Club alloes people in the Davidson community to learn how to play Croquet.  For more information contact William Brown

Cycling Club
The Club Cycling team's purpose is to participate in and organize cycling events.  For more information contact Curry Jones.

Davidson Martial Arts Club
The primary goal of this organization is to create a safer campus environment by training the mind and body to eliminate unnecessary conflicts.  Secondly, the development of martial arts skils in its members is important to be able to compete in regional competitions.  For more information contact Robert Mudano.

Davidson Outdoors
Davidson Outdoors offers the students, faculty, and staff of the College a variety of outdoor activities and courses throughout the year. Davidson student trip leaders lead the majority of our trips, which normally include: backpacking, coastal and whitewater canoeing, whitewater kayaking and rafting, rock climbing, caving, and mountain biking.  These trips vary from one day excursions to nine day trips over Christmas Break. We also have weekly kayak rolling lessons, daily indoor climbing, bicycle repair tools, a community bicycle program, a group initiatives challenge course, and, for those who want to run their own trips, an equipment rental and trip planning resource center.   For more information contact Sarah DeLoache.

Davidson Sports Marketing Association
The goal of the Davidson Sports Marketing Association is to improve and ensure attendence at Davidson Athletic Events and to promote the Davidson Athletic program with student help in the community and region.   For more information contact Blake Evitt.

DUFF Men
The Men's Ultimate Team seeks to provide the male student body with a year-round athletic opportunity that is both fun and competitive.  We hope to compete with other college and university teams from around the country in this up-and-coming sport that stresses sportsmanship and fairplay.  For more information contact Douglas Golann.

DUFF Women
The Women's Ultimate Frisbee Team gives an opportunity for women to practice four times a week and to attend about eight tournaments every school year.  We cultivate and spread our love for and skills in ultimate frisbee.  Mostly we have fun.  Recently we have become more competitive in the collegiate ultimate world.  For more information contact Jennifer DeKnight.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
Fellowship of Christian Athletes is the largest Christian sports organization in the United Sates. FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ.

Fencing Club
The Fencing Program at Davidson Collegeis divided into 3 parts; team fencing, club fencing, P.E. class fencing.  Fencing is offered to all interested Davidson students currently enrolled in the College.  For more information contact Elyse Hamilton.

Field Hockey Club
Provides an opportunity for its members to participate in competitive practices.  For more information contact Ashton Colaianni.

Flickerball
Flickerball and flag football are similar to regulation rugby and to American football except that the ball carrier is downed differently. In Flickerball, the defensive player must tag the offensive player in possession of the ball with at least one hand rather that being tackled. Upon gaining possession of the ball, a team has four downs in which to advance the ball to the next 18 yard marker. After the hike, every player is eligible to receive a pass and a pass can be thrown in any direction. The game consists of two twenty-minute halves. Teams must have a minimum of 12 players, with 7 members on the field of play. All games will be played on the Intramural field. Played in the Fall.  For more information contact Allen Sutton.

Intramurals

Men's Lacrosse
Provides its members with the opportunity to play competitive lacrosse.  The club plays a light schedule in the fall and full schedule in the spring with matches played.  For more information contact Fuji Lozada.

Men's Soccer
Provides opportunities for members to enjoy playing competitive soccer.  The club plays its matches during the fall semester.  The club practices twice a week with matches schedule on the weekends.  For more information contact Josh Parkey.

Men's Tennis
Davidson has both men's and women's Club Tennis Teams.  For more information please contact Jay Lanners.

Ping Pong Club
The Ping Pong Club will enhance the Davidson Community through a new community of Ping Pong Lovers sharing their common passion.  For more information contact Jeffrey Roth.

Roller Hockey
Club Roller Hockey provides students the opportunity to represent Davidson in a weekly roller hockey league and eventually compete in intercollegiate tournaments against other colleges in the southeast.  For more information contact Will Lent.

Rugby
Provides its members with opportunity to play competitive rugby.  The club will play a full schedule in both fall and spring.  the club practices at least twice a week with contest scheduled on the weekend.  For more information contact Cal Wicker.

Running Club
The purpose of the Running Club is to provide the students of Davidson College with an opportunity to pursue, or to initiate, a love of running outside the established varsity teams, while still fostering a sense of "togetherness." For more information contact Paisley Lewis.

Sailing
The purpose of this organization is to increase the knowledge and appreciation of competitive collegiate sailing among the Davidson College populace.  For more information contact Michael Raymond.

Small Field Soccer
Small field soccer will use the same rules as College and High School soccer. All games will be played on the Intramural field. Each game will consist of two twenty minute halves. Each team will field 5 players, with no goalkeeper. The field dimensions and size of goal will be reduced. Play in the Fall and Spring.  For more information contact Allen Sutton.

Softball
Softball will use the same rules as High School Slow Pitch Softball. All teams are made-up of both men and women. Each team must have at least 4 women, with at least 2 in the line-up at each contest. All games will be played on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday afternoons. Sunday's games will begin at 1:00pm. Games during the weekday will begin at 4:00pm. All games will be played on the intramural field.  For more information contact Allen Sutton.

Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC)
The SAAC impliments ideas to better promote academics and athletic achievement among Davidson varsity athletes.  It also encourages the Davidson students and faculty to attend sporting events.  For more information contact John Edwards.

Volleyball
Volleyball will play with same rules and regulations that govern college volleyball. Each match will consist, of the winner; winning the best of three games. All teams are co-ed and each team must have at least tow women participating in each contest. All matches will be played on the upper Intramural courts in the Baker Sports Complex. All teams will participate in a round robin tournament. Played in the spring.  For more information contact Ashley Crawford.

Water Polo
The purpose of this club is to learn the spirit of water polo and enjoy playing the sport.  The club's objectives are to field a team for competition, to participate in practices on a regular basis and enjoy the sport itself.  For more information contact Marshall Oelsen.

Women's Club Lacrosse
Club lacrosse provides girls with an opportunity to play competitive lacrosse in the Carolina Women's Lacrosse League, while also beign able to partake in other activities around school.   For more information contact Sarah Troutman.

Women's Club Soccer
Provides opportunities for members to enjoy playing competitive soccer.  The club usually practices twice a week and games played on the weekends.  The Women's soccer club plays both a fall and spring schedule.  For more information please contact Abbey Webb.

Women's Club Tennis
Club tennis aims to provide an outlet for students who wish to continue playing competitive tennis in college but not at the varsity level.  Davidson has both men's and women's Club Tennis Teams.  For more information please contact Katie Lovett.
