Davidson College Internationally Oriented Organizations 2008-2009* Dean Rusk Student Advisory Committee (SAC) actively promotes international awareness on campus and in the surrounding community. Members design and implement various programs and cultural events and produce a number of publications regarding international affairs. The organization also advises the administration of the Dean Rusk Program on how best to serve the international interest on campus. The SAC meets throughout the year and is open to students of all majors, academic years and backgrounds. Co-Chairs Justin Eusebio ’09 and Caroline McDermott ’09 ·Bank of America Steering Committee helps the Dean Rusk Program plan and prepare for the bi-annual Bank of America Conference. The committee will help organize and coordinate visits with speakers with other interested student groups on campus.
·Breakfast Series is a series of informal lectures held twice a month at 8am over bagels and coffee. These lectures range widely in topic and speakers. Professors from every department speak as well as exchange students and guest lecturers. This group will help organize and run the series throughout the year. Coordinator: Christoph Pross ’09 ·Publicity Committee will be working with the Co-Chairs, Bank of America Coordinators, and Breakfast series Coordinator to publicize events to the campus and build and maintain an SAC website. The committee is also responsible for campus outreach and finding organizations that wish to work with the SAC to host events and programs. Coordinator: Nicholas Kruter ‘11 ·Community Outreach Committee works closely with area schools and organizations to provide them with faculty and student speakers. This committee is also responsible for publicizing SAC events off-campus. Coordinator: Brian Aoyama ’09 ·Campus Outreach works with students who have studied or conducted research abroad, providing them with opportunities to share their experiences with the campus community through a series of student lectures. Contact: Alison Rauh ‘11 ·Toilet Paper is a Dean Rusk SAC publication on current critical issues in international affairs with at least three issues per semester. Issues are distributed to bathroom stalls throughout the campus. Grace Fletcher ’11 and Alex Gregor ’09 ·Travel Magazine is an annual publication that compiles the winning and outstanding faculty and staff submissions to the Annual Travel Writing Contest. Contact: Polly Draganova ‘09 * Amnesty International campaigns world-wide to advocate for human rights outlined in the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” and other international standards. The Davidson chapter meets periodically to write letters on behalf of prisoners around the world. Contact:Justin Eusebio '09
* Asian Culture & Awareness Association (ACAA) is a student-led organization for all members of the Davidson community interested in the Asian-American culture. They sponsor a variety of social and cultural activities throughout the year. Co-Presidents: Vaidehi Trivedi ’09 and Jackie Tan ‘09 * Building Tomorrow Program Chapter began in spring, 2006 at Davidson College. Meetings are held weekly. This is a college student supported non-profit initiative that raises money for infrastructure projects benefiting HIV/AIDS orphans in Kampala, Uganda. * Curry Club is an organization to promote diversity and related issues on campus such as: inviting guest speakers, host Bollywood movie sessions, host special guests for luncheons, sponsor video/documentaries, etc. President: Shivani Dasani ’10 and Vice-President: Namrata Patel ‘11
* Davidson African Students Association (DASA) is committed to nourishing cultural, intellectual, political, and economic awareness about the African continent. It aims to create a network and support system for African students and students of African descent.
