Teaching Since coming to Davidson in 1993, I have been teaching a variety of courses on German language, literature, and history as well courses in the Humanities program and the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies. In 2012, I was awarded the AATG/Goethe-Institut's National Certificate of Merit for outstanding achievement in furthering the teaching of German in the United States.
Professional Activities My publication record includes articles on Schiller and Goethe and a book on Goethe's Weimar which I edited with Susanne Kord and Simon Richter. For more than ten years I have been serving on the board of the Goethe Society of North America, and recently began work on the AP German Language and Culture Development Committee. In 2010, I concluded a two-year term as President of the North Carolina chapter of AATG.
Personal Interests I have been playing in one form or another all my life. Sadly, my scholarly interest in the theory and cultural significance of play has so far been no match for my practical obsession with sports, cards, and board games.
