 Support for Classes
Information Literacy Instruction | Course Reserves | Information Resources | Advice & Guidance
  • Information Literacy Instruction and Research Assistance
Help your students polish their research skills by scheduling information literacy sessions for your classes. We also offer one-on-one research consultations, custom-designed, Web-based course guides, and more.

  • Course Reserves and E-Reserves
Are there specific books, videos, articles, recordings, or other materials that you want all of your students to consult? We can provide your students with easy access to these resources by putting them on reserve for you. You can even link to Course Reserves and E-Reserves from Blackboard or your course Web page.
To submit materials for reserve, Questions? For questions about reserves, please contact Jean Coates, Assistant Director for Access &  Acquisitions(704-894-2331).
For questions about copyright, please contact Kelly Sink (704-894-2152), Intellectual Property Librarian.

  • Information Resources
    • Databases and Electronic Resources
We have hundreds of databases and thousands of electronic books, journals, and other resources. You can find links to these resources on the indexes and databases pages and on our guides.
    • Books, Videos, and Periodicals
We have over 600,000 volumes in our library; all are listed in the Library Catalog. We also have access to tens of thousands of full-text periodicals; use our Periodicals search to find journals, magazines, and newspapers in all formats.
If we lack titles that you need your students to use, you are welcome to order these materials for the library.
      Procedures:
      • Book & Video Orders
Faculty members may submit orders using our online form.
Please remember that all orders must be prioritized using the following scale:
        1. Item is needed for a class during the current semester.
        2. Essential purchase for existing or new class and/or research. You expect high use into the future, including use by students. This would also be the way to indicate titles needed for reserve for next semester.
        3. Good title but not essential; you expect lower use. To be ordered if all of the #1 and #2 priorities for your department have been ordered.
        4. Might be nice to have. You expect little use by students. Would ILL suffice? We will order at the end of the fiscal year if departmental funds are available.
Questions? Please contact Jean Coates, Assistant Director for Access & Acquisitions (704-894-2332).
      • Periodical Orders and Database Requests
Please contact Susanna Boylston, Assistant Director for Information Literacy & Content Selection (704-894-2494).

  • Advice and Guidance
    • Assignment creation
Are you creating or updating assignments that require students to find, select, evaluate, and use information resources? We can help. Librarians have a unique perspective; at the reference desk and in consultations, we help students locate the resources they need to complete your assignments, so we often know when and where students are having problems.
Not only can we provide you with up-to-date guides and bibliographies, but we can also suggest ideas, help you "road test" an assignment before you distribute it, and provide you with feedback later. For more information, please contact Susanna Boylston (704-894-2494).
    • Copyright and Fair Use
Have questions about copyright and intellectual property? Consult our guide to copyright or contact Kelly Sink (704-894-2152), Intellectual Property Librarian.
