Do you use Microsoft Word to write papers? Would you like to be able to cite the references in your RefWorks database as you work in Word? Write-N-Cite makes it easy to cite sources, keep track of your footnotes, endnotes, or parenthetical notes, and automatically generate a bibliography or list of works cited when you are done. What is Write-N-Cite? Write-N-Cite is small, downloaded program that lets you run an abbreviated version of RefWorks from within Microsoft Word. Write-N-Cite displays brief information about the works listed in your RefWorks database and allows you to cite those works with one click of your mouse. Downloading Write-N-Cite Write-N-Cite is already installed on all Library and ITS PCs and Macs. To download the Write-N-Cite utility to your own PC or Mac, log into RefWorks, and from the "Tools" menu, select "Write-N-Cite."
Using Write-N-Cite For help using Write-N-Cite, consult the following: Using Write-N-Cite from off campus, To use Write-N-Cite off campus, you'll need to modify your Write-N-Cite settings so that Write-N-Cite can work with the Library's proxy server. Note: The Library uses the proxy server rather than the RefWorks group code for off-campus access. - Windows users:
- From the "Start Menu," choose "Programs" and then "RefWorks."
- Select "WNC Proxy Configuration Utility."
- For "Proxy server URL," enter the following: https://ezproxy.lib.davidson.edu/login?url=https://www.refworks.com/Refworks/?WNC=true
- Click "OK."
- Thereafter, when you open Write-N-Cite, and you will be prompted to (1) log in to the proxy server with your Davidson network username and password and (2) log in to Write-N-Cite with your RefWorks username and password.
- Macintosh users:
- Open Write-N-Cite.
- From the Write-N-Cite menu, select "Preferences."
- Choose the "Proxy" option.
- For "Proxy server URL," enter the following: https://ezproxy.lib.davidson.edu/login?url=https://www.refworks.com/Refworks/?WNC=true
- Click "OK."
- Close Write-N-Cite. For the changes to take effect, you will need to close and restart Write-N-Cite.
- Thereafter, when you open Write-N-Cite, and you will be prompted to (1) log in to the proxy server with your Davidson network username and password and (2) log in to Write-N-Cite with your RefWorks username and password.
