The Bonner Scholars Program embraces the philosophy that colleges and universities are vital in improving the lives of individuals and communities while providing an "access to education and opportunity to serve." Our work strengthens student development, community impact, and campus infrastructure while promoting civic engagement, community building, diversity, international perspective, spiritual exploration, and social justice.
The Common Commitments The Bonner Foundation emphasizes six "Common Commitments" that embody the work of students involved in the program. These commitments are meant to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to live and serve as educated, culturally aware, and civic-minded individuals. - Civic Engagement: Participating intentionally as a citizen in the democratic process; actively engaging in public policy and direct service.
- Community Building: Establishing and sustaining a vibrant community of place, personal relationships, and common interests.
- Diversity:Respecting and engaging the many different dimensions of diversity in our public lives.
- International Perspective: Developing international understanding that enables individuals to participate successfully and sensitively in a global society.
- Social Justice: Advocating fairness, impartiality and equality while addressing systemic social and environmental issues.
- Spiritual Exploration: Exploring personal beliefs while respecting the spiritual practices of others.
