Program Highlights Travel Plans Financial Information Application Information Additional Program Information Program Highlights Students will spend approximately 10 weeks in Arequipa where they will live with Peruvian families. Classes will be held at the Universidad San Augustín, a local public university. Program highlights are:
- The normal academic course-load will include: two intensive Spanish language courses; a course taught by Dr. Mangan; and a course taught by a team of Peruvian professors ;
- Students can also audit any course offered at the university;
- Students will have opportunities to pursue non-credit internships with a variety of organizations such as social justice, micro-enterprise, and environmental non-profits, orphanages, or the city government;
- Extra-curricular courses and activities, such as folk music and dance will be offered;
- There will be weekend excursions to the beach, rural indigenous communities, and Colca Canyon.
Travel Plans The group will travel for 10 days before arriving in Arequipa and two weeks afterward. Highlights include: - The capital city of Lima. We will visit human rights groups, micro-enterprises, the U.S. embassy, and other sites.
- A bus trip from Lima to Arequipa where, on the way, we will visit the famous Nasca lines, a marine mammal sanctuary, a desert oasis, and a pisco (grape brandy) winery.
- A two-week trip at the end of the semester that will take us to Lake Titikaka, the Incan capital of Cusco, Machu Picchu including the vaunted ‘Inka Trail’, the Peruvian Amazon, and many sights in between.
Financial Information The regular Davidson full fee applies. In 2009, it should be approximately 22,000. The program fee covers most expenses from the time the student leaves Charlotte until he/she returns to Charlotte at the conclusion of the program. International airfare, housing, meals, and excursions are all included. Financial aid is treated the same as if the student were on campus.

Davidson College reserves the right to cancel or modify part or all of a study abroad program should changing circumstances make it necessary to do so. In cases where the college has security concerns, the program director and the Dean Rusk Program Director will gather information and make a recommendation to the Dean of Faculty. The dean will take his decision to the president, who retains ultimate authority to decide whether or not a particular Davidson-sponsored trip should proceed.
