2006 Hendrix Award Day

November 30, 2006

Contact:   Preston Davis

The Hendrix Award has become a rich part of the Davidson Football tradition.  Each year the award is presented to a former Davidson Football player who has gone on to success in his chosen profession.

It would be hard to find someone more qualified than this year’s honoree, the late Jerry Blackstock ’66.

Jerry Byron Blackstock, ’66, spent 37 years as a trial lawyer defending clients in more than 200 trials, earning admiration from many in his profession.  While at Davidson, Jerry was the classic Student-Athlete.  He committed himself to many student organizations as well as being a devoted member of the Football and Wrestling teams.

On Saturday, November 11, 2006, the Davidson Athletic Foundation and the Davidson Athletic Department honored Jerry for his accomplishments.  Receiving the award on Jerry’s behalf, Jerry’s wife, Margaret Blackstock commented on Jerry’s humble character.  “He was always quick to give praise and slow to accept it,” she said.  She noted that he would be flattered to be thought of in the same likeness as past honorees.
