Holidays

The college schedules eleven holidays each year and publishes this schedule in advance.  Holidays are scheduled for the benefit of employees and should be taken as designated unless there is an emergency or work situation which necessitates that an employee work on a holiday.

Eligibility

  • Regular full-time and part-time employees who have completed thirty days of continuous service are eligible for paid holidays.
  • Regular employees whose positions are budgeted for less than twelve months are generally eligible for paid holidays which fall during the months worked.
  • Temporary employees are not eligible to receive holiday pay.
  • Employees who are not scheduled to work on the day on which a holiday is celebrated will not be eligible to receive holiday pay.  However, an employee who would normally be scheduled for a holiday may still receive holiday pay if the holiday falls during a pre-approved vacation.

  • Make-up holidays may not be delayed longer than 30 days to augment a vacation schedule.
  • Employees who wish to take time off for religious holidays not observed by the college may use personal or vacation time for that day.

Payment for Work on Holidays

  • Hourly (non-exempt) employees who must work on a college holiday which is also a Federal holiday (Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th and Thanksgiving Day) will be paid time and a half  for all hours worked on that day and allowed to make up the holiday within 30 days.
  • Employees who are required to work on other college holidays will be paid straight time for hours worked and allowed to make up the holiday within 30 days. In no circumstances should a floating holiday be carried forward to the next fiscal year.
