Lilly Programs for the Theological Exploration of Vocation

Programs run through the Lilly Office to transition to other college departments in 2009-2010

The Lilly Programs for the Theological Exploration of Vocation, funded for the past eight years by a grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc., have contributed to the life of Davidson College in vital and varied ways. Hundreds of students, faculty, staff and alumni have participated in a wide range of programs designed to help them explore meaning, purpose and calling, both inside and outside the classroom.

Davidson originally received funding in 2001 from the Lilly Endowment to undertake a five-year initiative to develop these programs. In 2006, a three-year sustainability grant enabled the Lilly Programs Office to continue these endeavors while exploring ways to integrate them into the ongoing life of the college. As that grant period draws to an end this summer, a variety of the programs that have been under the auspices of the Lilly Programs Office will be transitioned to offices in the divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Life so that this important work may continue to enhance the life of the college community, even as the Lilly Office itself closes its doors. Among the programs which will be sustained are Sophomore-year initiatives, the Ministry Fellows Program, the Care Summer Service Internship, the Coltrane Visiting Professorship, the Alumni Summer Seminar, and opportunities for faculty and staff to reflect on their work at Davidson as a college rooted in the Reformed (Presbyterian) tradition.

Davidson College wishes to thank all of the staff who have worked in the Lilly Programs Office over the past eight years. Their fine efforts have contributed in countless ways to the college's fulfillment of its mission.  We look forward to continuing many of the important initiatives begun by the Lilly Program Office in the years ahead.
