If you don't have Microsoft Office, or if you have an older version, you may want to install Office 2007. Davidson has a site license for this software which allows students to install it on their personal computers, and to take it with them when they graduate. (If you leave the college for other reasons, you are obligated to uninstall the software.) Office 2007 includes: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Publisher, OneNote, Groove, and InfoPath. (These will be installed by default, but the features can be changed later by going to Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs (in Windows XP) or Programs and Features (in Windows Vista).) Note: if you have a demo or unregistered copy of Office currently installed on your computer (many new computers come with this), uninstall it (Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs for WinXP or Programs and Features for Vista) before installing our copy of Office. Otherwise, you will still be prompted for license information. To install Office 2007: - Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard, or, under the Start menu, choose Run.
- Enter
\\louise\resnet\windows\office2007\setup.exe then click OK. - When prompted, enter davidson\yourusername in the username field, and your network password.
- The install window may take a few seconds to appear, and the full install can last up to an hour. After the install finishes, reboot if prompted to do so.
- Verify that you have all of the latest patches by clicking on the Office button in the top left corner of any Office program, then choosing "Options" at the bottom of the menu. Choose "Resources" from the left column, then "Check for Updates". You will be prompted to install Microsoft Update, a utility that will allow you to get the latest updates for many Microsoft programs.
- Outlook should be configured for your user profile automatically. You may be prompted twice to enter your network password; if the stored username is incorrect you will receive the message "the name cannot be matched to a name in the address list." Replace the name listed with your network username, click "Check Name", then "Connect".
