Windows or Macintosh? We support both Windows and Macintosh computers. Your choice mainly depends upon your personal preference. You might go to your local public library and see if they have computers of both platforms. Use both to do things like compose a letter, browse the web, and send email. Then see which one you find easier to use and which one you like better. You might also think about what major you are going to pursue and think about what the industry standard is for computing in your field. You might even check with the department of your major and find out which type of computer that department uses. Laptop or Desktop? Here are some things to consider. The benefit of a laptop computer is that it is very portable; you can take it with you to classes and home with you over breaks. You can also take advantage or our wireless technology if it has a wireless card in it. However, a laptop computer is more easily left someplace, stolen, and damaged because you are carrying it around with you. Also, the screen and keyboard on a laptop computer might not be as easy to use as a desktop unit and the touchpad might not be as easy for you to use as a mouse. The best advice is to use computers of various types and see which one you like best. Minimum Requirements? To connect your computer to the campus network, it will need to meet our minimum hardware and software requirements. You will want to reference these requirements as you discuss your purchase with a computer vendor.
