Peter Ahrensdorf
is James Sprunt Professor of Political Science and Affiliated Professor of Classics at Davidson College. He was born in Manila, Philippines, grew up in Washington, DC, received his BA from Yale University and his Ph.D. from the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago. Ahrensdorf is the author of articles on Plato, Thucydides, Hobbes, Sophocles, and Domingo Sarmiento and three books: The Death of Socrates and the Life of Philosophy: An Interpretation of Plato's Phaedo (1995); Justice Among Nations: On the Moral Basis of Power and Peace¬¬, co-authored with Thomas L. Pangle, (1999); and Greek Tragedy and Political Philosophy: Rationalism and Religion in Sophocles' Theban Plays (2009). He is currently working on a book on the political and moral thought of Homer and a translation of Sophocles' Theban Plays.
