Program overview
A close-knit and active community, the Russian Studies Department at Davidson offers language instruction at all levels, a WRI seminar (Russia & the West), surveys on Russian literature and culture, and advanced seminars on single authors. Our students get to know each other in small classes, at weekly Russian table, and at numerous cultural events. Each year we host a native-speaker AT from Russia through IIE/Fulbright. This year's AT, Daria Sidorova, joins us from Saratov.
Fall 2012 This fall we welcome a group of Russian students from the prestigious Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) for one month. Other Russian events include Dr. Monika Greenleaf's lecture on Russian theater in September and the Theater Department's main stage production of Ivan Turgenev's "A Month in the Country" in October and November. We also look forward to weekly Russian Table, culture evenings, movies, and the Russian booth at International Festival during Family Weekend.
Major & Minor Davidson offers a Russian major through the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, with a focus on either Russian Area Studies or Russian Language & Literature. A basic rubric for the major can be found here (pdf). We also offer a minor in Russian.
ROTC For information about scholarships involving Russian, please see "language scholarships" on the Davidson ROTC page or contact Major Rick Nash at 704-894-2165.
