Office: Carolina Inn 203 Ext: 2441 email: Alan Michael Parker Painting (R) entitled "Free Radical" by Felicia van Bork (encaustic on panel, 2007) Alan Michael Parker is the author of five books of poems, Elephants & Butterflies, A Peal of Sonnets, Love Song with Motor Vehicles, The Vandals, and Days Like Prose, and a novel, Cry Uncle; co-editor of The Routledge Anthology of Cross-Gendered Verse, Editor for North America of Who’s Who in 20th Century World Poetry, and editor of The Imaginary Poets. His poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review, The New Republic, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and The Yale Review, among other magazines; his prose appears regularly in journals including The Believer, The New York Times Book Review, The New Yorker, and The San Francisco Chronicle.
Professor Parker's honors include the 2003 Lucille Medwick Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America (for a poem on humanitarian theme), the 2003 Editor's Choice Award from The Marlboro Review; fellowships from the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Councils on the Arts, and the Arts and Sciences Council; a Pushcart Prize, and residencies at the Seaside Institute, the MacDowell colony, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. He travels widely and has given readings from his work at more than fifty colleges and lectured at the Sorbonne.
