Social Security Number

The Social Security number is a nine-digit individual identification number that is used for employment purposes only. In order to receive a Social Security number students must provide evidence that he or she has been authorized by the school to work and has secured employment.

Any alien with employment may obtain a Social Security number by applying in person to the local Social Security office with a passport and valid I-94 Form. Students need to show proof of employment to obtain a Social Security number.

To obtain your Social Security number, the International Student Office will arrange for a representative from the Social Security Office to come to campus to assist you with your paperwork. When you receive your Social Security card in the mail, you must appear in person in the International Student Office.
