Re-Entry Issues

For students who have studied abroad for a semester or year, the study abroad experience does not end upon returning home.  Many students find that their views have changed.  They experience differences in themselves, their family, their friends, their surroundings and at Davidson.  Many students feel out of place.  This is very normal and is part of the process known as "re-entry."

We at Davidson, are very aware of many possible re-entry issues a student may experience and are here to help.  There are many things a returning student can do.  Here are some ideas:

* THE STUDENT COUNSELING CENTER

The Student Counseling Center is available to Davidson College students who may feel the need to discuss any issues that they may be struggling with.  At times, re-entry and reverse culture shock can be such issues.  Readjusting to Davidson academics and dealing with changes in social relationships are other areas returnees have reported to be stressful.

Davidson College students are entitled to as many as 10 individual counseling sessions per academic year, at no charge. During the course of an academic year, around 15% - 20% of the student body at Davidson seeks one or more individual counseling sessions at the Student Counseling Center.

Appointments are available during regular Center hours, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. These can be made by phoning 894-2451, or by visiting the Center.
